As the capital of Indiana, Indianapolis is often thought of as a quiet, Midwestern city. However, with a population of over 830,000 people, Indianapolis is actually the 14th largest city in the United States. And like any large city, Indianapolis has its share of crime. But just how safe is the Circle City?

In order to answer that question, we need to look at the data. According to the most recent FBI crime report, there were a total of 9,254 crimes committed in Indianapolis in 2017. Of those crimes, 805 were violent crimes and 8,449 were property crimes. That means that the violent crime rate in Indianapolis was 9.6 per 1,000 residents and the property crime rate was 102 per 1,000 residents.

When we compare those rates to other cities with populations over 500,000 people, we can see that Indianapolis falls somewhere in the middle. There are several cities with higher violent crime rates (e.g., Memphis and Baltimore) and several with lower rates (e.g., San Diego and El Paso). As for property crime rates, again Indianapolis falls somewhere in the middle when compared to other large cities; there are some with higher rates (e.g., Albuquerque and Denver) and some with lower rates (e.g., Virginia Beach and San Jose).

So what does this all mean? Well, it depends on how you look at it. If you compare Indianapolis to other large cities around the country, then it’s not doing too bad when it comes to crime; however, if you compare it to smaller cities or even suburban areas around Indiana then its safety record isn’t looking so great.

Of course ,no one wants to live in a city where there is a lot of crime but sometimes these things happen no matter where you live . While we can’t change what happened in the past ,we can focus on making sure our future is much safer . We need more jobs ,better schools ,and after school programs . We also need more mental health resources because many criminals have undiagnosed mental health issues . By working together ,we can make our city a safer place for everyone .
It’s important to remember that crime rates can fluctuate from year to year, so it’s possible that the numbers we’re seeing for Indianapolis are just a blip. However, even if the crime rate does go back down, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a problem. After all, one violent crime is one too many.

So what can be done to make Indianapolis safer? Well, like we said before, creating more jobs and providing better resources for mental health care are two important steps. But there are also things that each of us can do on an individual level to help make our city safer.

For example, we can all be more aware of our surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the police. We can also get to know our neighbors and look out for each other. And if we see something happening that looks like it could turn violent, we shouldn’t hesitate to intervene.

Ultimately, making Indianapolis safe is going to take a community effort. We all have a role to play in keeping our city safe and we need to work together if we want to see
